I start on October 12, and a friend of mine has rather inconveniently decided to get married on December 31 this year in Vancouver.
I won't have had my 6 months probation by then, but I am wondering if there is any way you can ask for guaranteed days off for a special occasion such as this? I know that holidays are the usual way of getting days off, but I understand I won't be able to take hols in the first 6 months. Well, that's what my letter of offer says anyway.
Also, can I access any staff discounts (with say Air Canada) in the first 6 months of employment?
