Only one slight problem with the CH-146 escorting the Chinook..the Chinny will have to slow down (and I have flown them both...). Perhaps a chat to the USMC and some Huey upgrades are in order? I'm not sure how much breath a Griffon will have left in AFG by the time you M134/2.75" it up.
Maybe some second-hand AH-1s are more suitable, esp those with similar rotables to the Griffon. Could also be sweet politically to give Bell Canada some cash to refit & maintain them?
"Guns a go-go" the ACH-47A was a qualified success; lots of firepower and lots of ammo meant that it could stay in the fight much longer than a "Hog" but also meant it increased the chances of being hit. Ultimately it was the arrival of the AH-1 and the urgent call on Chinooks to do the traditional jobs that spelt the end for the programme. Oh, and a penchant for shooting itself down...
