Robyn, it's usually a good idea to always have some money with you when you travel...or have a way to get quick access to it!
I have a couple friends who work at Etihad, and they say you get paid for training (I don't know how much) but Etihad isn't going to give you money when you walk off the plane on your first day.
NNicoleF, if you have emails from Ryan, maybe you can ask him again for confirmation. Maybe you can make up that you have a vacation to plan or something so can he get back to you.
Maybe you can mention about your cousin living in Abu Dhabi, but I've heard your housing arrangements happen pretty quick.
