Palmy and Mermaid are too far away, about 2 hour commute at least each way in normal traffic. May be a little less if you are on shift at wierd times (quite possible). There are a few beach suburbs in Brisbane but not as nice as the coast. Bribie Island is much closer or even Redcliffe.
