I was impressed by his airmanship. He didn't even exclaim "Crikey" or nothing.
I'm sure that I would have had a few choice words to say out loud....
He shut down his engine (or it stopped itself when the cable wrapped around the prop), deployed the chute, and still managed a quick Mayday call. Sure, it wasn't textbook, but he did the right things in the right order at fairly low level.
You shouldn't be so harsh on him.
