Cardiff Airport terminal drop off ban 'permanent'

Cardiff Airport has announced that it has permanently banned cars from driving up to its terminal building. The news comes as the UK terror alert threat level drops from 'critical' to 'severe' as the fallout from the weekend terror attack continues.

Passengers flying from Cardiff will now be picked up and dropped off via the short stay car parking after airport chiefs stepped up their security measures airport. Concrete anti-terrorist barriers will also remain in front of the terminal, which can now only be approached by buses and authorised vehicles, such as delivery trucks.

And a spokesman said that, although police checkpoints that have been in place over the last few days have been removed, the new measures will remain even if the threat level drops further.

The airport's head of communications, Peter Phillips, said: 'Together with the police, Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Department for Transport, we have changed our transport arrangements and installed signs to avoid any confusion for visitors.'

'The new pick-up and drop-off point is now by the short term car park and this will be a permanent measure. This has all been put together over the last few days when it became clear, as it did for every airport in the UK, that new measures were needed.'
