Yesterday, Wednesday (?) the EU banned some 92, mostly African, airlines from its skies. Obviously not all of these airlines fly to Europe or within Europe or across Europe, but nonetheless, it is a pretty damning condemnation of their safety records.
Among the airlines banned were, Airlink Swaziland, Jet Africa, and Swazi Express Airways.
At least ten airlines from Equatorial Guinea were banned while from the Congo the prohibited list was extraordinary in its length. Airlines such as Africa One, CO-ZA Airways, Waltair Aviation, Global Airways and Uhuru Airlines were banned, as was Comair. Air Service Comores also suffered the same indignity.
One supposes that some might just have to mark time until their record improves. Just for the sceptics out there, the list may be found on the following link.
One hopes it provides subtle amusement..
