Shemy at the risk of trying to speak for others here, i believe it may have been "a bit of banter" as the phrase goes.....
There is plenty of info you can get on the RAF out there on the web, and as said above your local AFCO will prove to be a good hunting ground for extra gen! I am currently in my second year of sixth form (year 13) and i recieved a 6th form scholarship after i went down to OASC last year.
I would go to your local AFCO to get some literature to read up on, Also your ATC squadron may have an RAF careers pack which may prove useful.
