From Pilots Weather by Brian Cosgrove, the Microlighters Met Book

Surface temp = 21
Dew point = 15

Difference = 6
DALR = 3 degrees per 1000 ft
therefore estimated Cloud base = 6/3 x 1000 = 2000 ft
