It's his fault he looked uncomfortable - he took the job on with full knowledge of the state of the fleets and their workloads - no-one forced him to take the job,
AFAIK.
While he can't fix the 10 year delay for the replacement, or even magic up an inventory of spares, he could have turned the job down.
