Was camping in Wahiba sands a good few years back with the folks when one came nearby off SUR, needless to say half of Wahiba Sands came back with us in the Tojo (Toyota for none Ozzy and Kiwi's
).
Whilst not a regular phenomena, they do during summer get up that way as they bust out of the Sub-Continent monsoon, which is typically caught in the south of Oman Salalah way annually and known locally as the Khareef (spelling not assured!).
Batten down the hatches, global warming is on the way
P.S If you can get to Salalah during the Khareef it is a must do if you live in this region, Oman Air and Jazeera doing packages there...get amongst it
