There is a distinction to be considered between trained, experienced and able. The most inexperienced trained ( read type rated) may well have much more ability than the 8000hr guy sitting beside him or her. What one has to look at is the balance; are there enough high time, able and experienced people to fill left seats to give the low time people the opportunity of gaining experience and hence exposure to a variety of situations. Too often you find very inexperienced pilots in charge of scheduled airliners, and while things are going well they can cope. When the s**t hits the fan however, will they have the resources to deal with the problem?
