RNH Haslar was probably the cleanest and most efficient hospital I have ever visited. Even in recent years the standard of care has been excellent although it is no longer just a military hospital. Whilst we clearly do not need a whole host of Military Hospitals, we should have at least a couple.
Speaking to some of the medical fraternity however, you will normally find little enthusiasm for this point of view. The Defence Medical Services, like their staff to work in MDHUs because it gives them a much broader range of skills. Most Service personnel are fit and well and you will not get the cross section of ailments that you get in a normal civilian community. Working in A&E dealing with Friday night stabbings and gunshot wounds, provide key trauma skills that you would just not experience within a military hospital.
Without the support of the majority of the Defence Medical Services, this petition will fail.
