Not done it by road, but had a bit of a laugh a few years ago when I had two business visits to Canada in 2 weeks.

As my daughter lives in PHL, I went first to PHL for a weekend with daughter, then flew to Ottawa for 4 days and back for a long weekend with daughter before returning to Ottawa for 2 days the following week. Finally back to PHL for a few days before leaving US.

The only problem was when leaving the US the second time,when the gate agent couldn't find the rules for Brits' visa requirements to go to Canada! She didn't know the country code for UK so she could check her computer (I now know it's GBR) and asked me if I was sure that I didn't need a visa. I pointed out that I hadn't needed a visa the previous week and she dubiously let me go
