I've not heard of it in the UK, but putting 1 euro/100 pesetas in the slot at Spanish airports has been going on for years!
It seems a bit pointless doing that at Liverpool though, isn't it more likely that you turn up in the morning to find the trollies propped up by bricks with the wheels gone?!
