A spokesman for Manchester Airport said the engine did not catch fire but the flames were caused by burning of the birds.

Had me wondering for a while why the pilot sent the tx "Thomson XXXC mayday mayday mayday, right engine failiure" - Proberbly because it wasn't actually on fire!
