Any technical problems would be recorded in the Tech Log. The pilots and engineers would refer to a document called the MEL (Minimum Equipment List) which outlines the technical problem and then whether the aircraft can be dispatched or not. I don't know about a challenge and response log but that could be a name for the technical log in other countries.
