I would do some digging for papers in AHI or SAE on that one, slow. It's a "how long is a piece of string?" type of question dependant on design environment and intended life. Another way of looking at the problem is that i bet Robbie wished they had been more conservative on leading edge erosion. Unless it compromised performance i would design in an edge strip.
