Jaarrgh, I'm delighted that you have had two positive experiences of BALPA, unfortunately I have had the complete opposite. The first company that I worked for went into receivership. BALPA washed their hands of us, we had no one to represent us, BALPA wouldn't do a damn thing when our former board of directors walked away without paying us any redundancy or even our contractual notice period.
Second dealings with BALPA dealt with dreadful working conditions, dangerous flying & breach of contract. Advice from BALPA's
"legal" department: there's nothing we can do, pay up! I, along with three other pilots, represented ourselves & the company completely backed down prior to court action due to a dossier of safety breaches that they themselves couldn't contradict. BALPA will never receive another penny from me, they're good if you fly for BA, possibly?
