Ohoh, I can feel a anti KLM/VNV bashing comming up.

Here's what happened: KLM pilot's and a certain Dutch journalist have been in conflict for some time. The journalist in question obtained a log in code to the dutch vnv forums and has been using the forums to gather news. Things being said on the forum about day to day gossip appeared in this "high quality" newspaper.

For example, KLM recently started strictly enforcing the uniform regulations, so strict that guys not adhering where being suspended for not wearing their hat for example. Off course, as in any major airline, some guys complain about that on their forum. Happens in any airline. Days later it appeared in the newspaper that ALL KLM guys were en masse complaning on the forum about the uniform regulations.

Off course guys then started to complain about the journalist which he took personally and the situation escalated out of control. The high point was when certain pilots were, by name, completely misquoted in the newspaper. By misquoted I mean, what they had said in the forum was being put in the newspaper completely out of context, their name included.

This resulted in a lot of name calling, after which the VNV decided to close the forum. A decision I personally regret because it does look like censorship and we caved in to blackmailing of the journo.

Look, a forum is like a bar, lot of venting. It is also suposed to be private. If you don't like what you read, don't go there. It's a shame the forum was closed, having said that, some guys went a little overboard in the name calling of the journo and thereby not adhering to the forum regulations.

A big difference between PPRUNE and the VNV forum, PPRUNE is anonymous while VNV forum isn't, but think about what the reactions on this forum would be if guys commented on a subject and would then read this and their name in the newspaper next day!

Hope this sheds some light on the subject.
