There are (well should be at least!) stringent tolerances that require the PM to call for the MA. The SOPs
do go quite far in shifting the "mateship" factor out of the cockpit. Stable calls and out of tolerance calls allow for the captain to 'objectively' can an approach or the FO to speak up if the cockpit gradient is dangerous, eliminating the "but I had it" scenario.
