On the topic of the abuse of wings, surely people can distinguish between your everyday aircrew and some pretend-pilot propped up at the bar boasting to anyone who will listen about when he got shot down in 'Nam? It's the SAS effect: the people wearing all that SAS bling and talking about 'selection' and the likes are the ones least likely to have had anything whatsoever to do with it.
