Memory is a bit hazy here, but didn't a Harrier once use a disused coalyard near Victoria station, around 1969 I think. Early version too, with perhaps a less reliable engine. That was a record attempt, so that's all right then.

this document which states it was indeed 1969, but a coal yard at Kings Cross. Page 38 has a photograph of the event.
