Hellow gentelmans, anyone nows where is B744 aux fuel tank located
The Aux tank on a 744 ER is in the forward cargo bay and has no fuel pumps fitted to it.
The fuel is displaced by cabin differential pressure. 2 valves in tandem open and allow cabin air from the forward cargo area to flow into the tank which displaces the fuel into the unpressurised center wing tank.
(If the cabin diff pressure isn't high enough a boost fan runs to force air into the AUX tank to clear the fuel)
Now if memory serves me correct if the "forward overboard valve" is inop on any 744 the MEL states forward cargo must remain empty due to the fact if any fire were to happen in the forward cargo the over board valve would be unable to clear the lower equipment center of smoke.
As someone has previously descibed the the AUX tank as a "cargo container" LD3 full of fuel.
I dont have the ER MEL book handy but I would suggest the AUX tank would have to remain empty same as the cargo area if the forward overboard valve was U/S due to similar reason stated above.
Hope this helps as I am runing on memory
