My view - The crew reacted, and stayed on the grey stuff without killing anyone.
If that was your base check you would get a tick in a box, yes or no? They did it for real. Good on them.
If you fly in that part of the world without enough fuel to go else where, when a runway becomes unuseable, then fit drop tanks (joke), or work for an airline that lets the skipper decide how much juice they want. IMHO.
