The commentary on Japanese TV explained that he kept the nose gear high till the plane had slowed to a recommended speed which is considered to create less friction and sparking. Japanese TV made a lot more fuss than the local news. Passenger interviews indicated that the pilot kept the pax informed the whole time and came across as if it was just another day in the office.
