Try the local library, see what they've got. If you're cashed up, have a look in local (big name if possible) book shop.
The 'dummies' books are pretty good, there is also a good series that use big colour piccys of what you're (supposed) to be doing.
also, there are probably heaps of usefull (free) sites on the net that will step you through everything.
(try searching at somewhere like
www.metacrawler.com for 'learning computers' etc etc.
If you're up and running with email and pprune, there really isnt much else you could possibly need anyway
