Hi !. .. .Just a quick thought for you , windows TCP/IP settings, ie your MTU value and RWIN settings as default are not optimized for DSL, CABLE or DIAL UP but instead give the overall best performance for a wide range of connections, it is absolutely necessary to TWEAK these values for a particular connection type, you can expect to see a 10 to 50 percent increase in upload and download speeds once these settings are adjusted.. .I KNOW I KNOW ! Adjusting these settings requires you edit some registry values and if you're like me you shy away from manually twidling with anything has to do with the windows operating system as though it were Hexed, which it is !. .FORTUNATELY, there are a multitude of programsout there that will TWEAK and return these settings to DEFAULT if not satisfied. The best program I have found, a free evaluation is available for download at :. .http://www.tweakmaster.com/. .I use it myself and have seen a 25 percent increase in throughput and 10 percent increase in stability, I however have a cable modem and available bandwidth continuouly fluctuates with demand, I expect you will see a noticeable improvement.. .My suggestion to you would be to download the program, its easy to use and menu driven, try one of the threeoptimization schedules provided and test the performance of your unimproved connection against each one of the 3 tweaks above, a really good internet connection test is available at :. .www.pcpitstop.com . .just select internet connection in the top left of the menu and you will be able to test everything from ping time to upload and download speeds, in addition it will run a health check on your entire PC if you so choose, FOR FREEEEEE !!!. .I ask you can it get better than this ???. .. .If none of the above work , then by all means change your ISP.. .. .For reference MTU=Max Transmission Unit. . Rwin=Receive window. .. .A careful balance of these is required to boost your throughput withought packet loss that is why there are 3 optimization schedules in Tweakmaster.. .REMEMBER ! You can alway restore your defaults and it aint gonna cost you a dime or over 30 mins of your time to try the above. Drop me a line at [email protected] If you have any other questions or if you didn't get an increase.. .. .Sincerely:. .. .Marc
