Excuse my ignorance here but wouldn't these aircraft be leased in some way shape or form?
Surely with them sitting idle, a great deal of money is going to waste, even if they aren't accumulating hours.
So much for QF trying to remove unnecessary cost from the business, oh sorry that's only from the staff!
