Talair actually had another short-snout that ended its days at Lake Murray. An over-zealous cargo-boi loaded lots of welding rods in the nose locker, and it simply never rotated.
Wasn't Lake Murray, it was an airstrip on the Fly, south of Kiunga but I don't recall the name. The nose locker was loaded with hessian bags of nuts and bolts whilst the pilot was distracted. If memory serves me correctly, a generator tied down inside kept going when the C402 stopped, exiting the aircraft through the side!
Think you mentioned P2-GKB? That was the first C402, bought new by TAL in 1968, in anticipation of the first Reg 203 exemption to conduct RPT operations.
