WF pros:
In WF we actually do some real flying - not just vectors for ILS. Airmanship, judgement and handling skills are still important factors. A lot of companies have moved on to training system operators and robots not capable of critical thinking and problem solving...
Standard is 7 days on / 7 days off. Some of us have voulenteered for option #2, which could look like this (my roster); TUE-FRI on - SAT+SUN off - MON-WED on - THU-MON off (guaranteed every week end off). Probably the most stable and predictable roster in the industry (except Lufttransport maybe).
WF pays for the T/R + salary during the course. Pay is very good (can PM you the details).
Company is very flexible when it comes to arranging a day off if you need it (trade one day for another etc.)
Pension, LOL and insurance is one of the best deals around. You can even decide to retire at age 55 (which I plan on doing!!!). You HAVE to leave at 60.
Full staff travel rights on most carriers world wide. This deal is worth A LOT.
WF cons:
Only one aircraft type; variations of the Dash-8. An aircraft that's not exactly a pilot's dream - but I s'pose that goes for a lot of other types as well
Commuting to Tromsoe/Bodoe the first two-four years. Bid your way south. Come command upgrade time, they'll ship you off to Tromsoe or Bodoe again for a few years. Bid your way south, and get transferred according to seniority list and availability. Could take 4 years more or less, so plan on some commuting. Company pays commuting tickets for commanders, but not housing.
If I were to jump ship, It'd have to be for Net Jets, BA long haul, or SAS if they ever decide to hire again, and only if they improve their T&Cs for new-hires... Reason: more a/c types, a shot at trying long haul, better pay, MUCH better operational department (professionals).
Stay the hell away from Coast. Lufttransport is quite good - especially the roster. Or so I've heard.
I'm sure I've left a lot of info out here, so feel free to supplement and/or correct.
