Please don't feel you have to explain this to me. Ive lived here collectively over 20 years (I have a feeling that is longer than you). As for the 'sinking-in' part you mention, that happened coincidently about 20 years ago, eventhough I was very young.

Apart from qualified flight crew and other highly technical professions, this 'reality' is the potential employees' doing...they accept the abuse, no?? They don't contest the T&C's offered to them and so it becomes practice. Furthermore, as there is n't any regulating authority for this matter, who cares?
...I dont know what the hell the argument is! BUT, I do not agree that this place is a savings' paradise...not anymore. Furthermore, as a suggestion, I think you should update your gen. knowl. on costs of real estate/rentals/leasing in Asian countries (without comparing it to the 1st of the 1st world). Esp. rentals: Mumbai is not too far behind Tokyo
