Britannia/Thomsonfly/Tuifly at Luton

In the sixies they were based at Luton and operated 8 Britannias from here, and virtually nowhere else. As the 737 fleet grew, with the Inclusive Holiday market, they opened new bases and moved aircraft away from Luton. A couple of years ago, they were down to 2/3 based 757s doing fewer than 40 flights a week.

Over the last 18 months or so, they have rediscovered their home base, and realised that it is spectacularly well located. 'Frequent' (does this mean scheduled?) services are now operated to lots of sun resorts, plus Marrakesh, Prague, and from May, Dubrovnilk and Jersey too. This year Luton will have 3/4 aircraft based, and regular visitors from other bases on 'w' patterns.

Perhaps they (at last) see a future at Luton, and will start to compete on the under-served routes on a scheduled basis (Greek islands, Turkish coast, Bulgaria, Romania, Naples/Sicily, etc).
