Lets get a little perspective here shall we.

VK is seen as an employer that people wish to work for, hence it has many hundreds (maybe thousands) of responses every time it advertises a job.
VK's fleet is still in its infancy and it doesn't need thousands of pilots, it needs enough to cover the programme and a few in the back pocket for growth.
There will be many very qualified and capable pilots in the applications, probably more than VK needs, so VK ends up turning down (for now) some of these pilots. VK has systems in place to try to ensure that they can be certain all the licences are valid and accurate, that the people they employ are stable of mind and will be able to work within the regs of the company. They then look at those who pass and if they have more people than positions then some folks miss out.

Surely people aren't suggesting that they should employ all the applicants regardless of positions available?

I am sure that the same problem exists for easyjet, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, and possibly even Arik, whenever they advertise.

Long term the airline will grow and more positions will become available.
