It's always cheaper to crew trans Tasman ops with EnZed based crews because of the schedule times and the time zone difference - it avoids the cost of crew having to overnight. The wages in EnZed are usually lower as well.
Cheaper perhaps, and fewer, I think.
I heard that NZCAA regulations require 1 cabin crew per 50 pax, CASA 1 per 40, so ZK registered aircraft of 733 size require 1 less crew member.
that adds up to lotsa $$$ saved.
