Cyclic!. .I have noticed a few oddities with the hibernate and standby capabilities within XP. The deal is that you can only have Hibernate OR Standby operational at any time unless you count powering down the monitor and hard drives as standby. You can turn H'te on /off in Power Options. The system file that deals with power management is hal.dll which is loaded in to the System32 file. You can replace this file from you XP CD in case it is corrupted. The file is modified by Norton Anti Virus and that was the cause of my failure of Stby and Hib. I know this is not a solution but it may give you some pointers!
