CASA in Oz get a lot of flak for different things but it has to be said that their medical people are at the fore front of innovation and ahead of the USA, who I would have thought to be fairly liberal. An example is the use of SSRI's, permitted in Oz but immediate grounding in the US. Yearly medical for ATPL till over 60, then 6 monthly. They are really pro active in keeping you in the cockpit.
