I know that some aircraft behave somewhat nonlinearly if slipped with flaps (do I recall some Cessnas placarded thus?)

But I've never thought that's a general rule for all aircraft - while I'm a few years removed from active flying, I wouldn't hesitate to slip a ship if it's not placarded.
