The AMD processor will probably be fine for your uses described. You will certainly
get more for your money.
Windows ME is an excellent OS, and it has a very nice feature
that allows you to roll back the system settings on your OS back
to a date you know it was good. So if you install something and it
messes up the system, you can simply roll back a couple of days and
it will be gone. It has saved me rebuilding my PC 3 times now
Windows XP is one to be very carefull with. I have tested it and was
not impressed at all. It also failed to run quite a lot of my software.
I admit that some of it was games, but it wouldn't take it anyway. I dont
want to use an OS that can't load software off the shelf.
Maybe MS will fix it before the offical release, dont know ( wouldn't count
on it ! )
As for memory...........SDRAM will do you fine unless you are going to do a
lot of gaming. Flight Sim 2000 loves RAM, and so ( I guess ) will FS 2002, so
if you can afford it you would be wise to go for DDR memory.
DDR memory is much faster than SDRAM as it runs on a MUCH faster FSB ( 400Mhz )
128Mb of DDR is probably about 3 times faster than 128Mb of SDRAM ( at 133 FSB )
Hope this helps ..........and good luck with the new toy when you get it !!
