The lady in question is a friend of M's (that's Mrs Keef) and young enough to be my daughter
The "control userpasswords2" function will do it. Or you can set it to log intself on, by giving it the ID and password you want it to use. My laptop and my desktop both go straight to the main desktop with no password input.
