Well let's think. The North West region has two main airports in MAN and LPL. Not too far away for those in the East of the region is Leeds Bradford, and for those in the South of the region BHX. The North of the region now also has growing Blackpool services too. Liverpool also has a sea port, and Holyhead is not hugely far away either which is handy as Dublin is one of the most popular destinations from the North West.
There are trains to MAN from all over the North and Scotland. There are buses to LPL, including those from central Manchester.
Considering that travellers from across the region criss-cross it to these various airports, which often offer pretty much the same routes (MAN LH being the exception but then again this thread is about LPL) then It seems you wouldn't really have to do much to find alternatives...
