Thanks EGKK! Yep, was back a fair while ago when my dad and I would actually sit on the wooden perimeter fence at EGKK and I would wave to the pilots. I'll pm you for the additional details! I have now just done the obvious thing and had a look at the road layout around Gatwick on Multimap.
No such worries at Shoreham (my "home" airport) where my friends and I spent many happy hours wandering along the riverbank watching all the activity on the field.
