Sooner BAA is split up and gets some competition the better for all concerned
If LGW and LHR were owned by separate companies - what incentive would the LHR company have for getting it right and providing SERVICE before SHOPS?

Yes, I know that the two can be provided together and it is actually PROFIT that is being put before SERVICE. But, since almost every airline that serves the UK wants to go to LHR - then the demand will always be high and they have no incentive to get it right. It's like JFK and EWR. Whilst some folks prefer LGW / EWR as they are closer to their homes/offices, most pax and the carriers want LHR and JFK.

Once a new company had got their hands on the LHR cash cow - why would they not cut back on service and coast?

"What's that you say, Skippy? The CAA and UK givt will ensure that they are kept up to the mark?"
