I had exactly this problem a couple of weeks ago. Pprune was one of the sites I had problems with and others like BBC.co.uk were fine. I am with BTinternet and I eventually used their Help system and they admitted they were having problems with their servers but they wouldn't say why they weren't posting the problem on their service status page.
Problem disappeared after a few days.
