Sally, I know, it's not easy, I was in a similar situation. Remember that the company cannot answer to every application, since there are hunderts of them. Be assured that they check everyone carefully. Visiting the office is not appreciated, because this increases their workload tremendously. This is a low cost company, and time is their most expensive ressource.
Regarding the wide-spread applicant's profile, I repeat that it is depending on your qualification, personality and supply and demand. And the later might change every single day. Take into account that Tiger is currently applying for a network at least doubling in size, but all depends on politics and economical pressure groups in other countries.
