I agree, there are always two sides to a story, and sometimes even a third and fourth.
You say records are involved, these must be flying or maintenance records................you seem to know more so I presume you are in close contact with the person(s) concerned.
But the Maintenance Manager was also the Continuing Airworthiness Manager, responsible for accurate record keeping and flying hours recording. As you are a commercial Pilot I am sure you are aware of the responsibilities of his "prior" position.
It will be interesting who the authorities hold responsible (if any) if there are any errors in the records.
