In practice the LLR is more feared than fearsome, after the first time you quickly realise that you cannot get lost in it as there are so many features to follow. Incidentally my preferred route to CAE is down the LLR then Wrexham and either direct over Snowdon or Ruthin - Llandudno if cloud prevents.
