Sounds like a good age to join - old enough to be that much more confident than some of the youngsters.
If he works hard, gets on courses etc. he'll be a really useful guy with a great career in front of him. A lad I knew joined the Guards, completed his engagement, and is now an armed response officer with Thames Valley Police, nice house, and a lovely wife
