If you want a PIC Type Rating then you need to do a check ride.
If you want a SIC Type Rating, it is a simple paperwork application at your closest Flight Standards District Office.

Not only will you need a check ride, but you will have to do the whole ground/sim program all over approved by the FAA. The days of just taking a checkride with an examiner are long gone.
