The problem is that Canadian unions don't have to represent the interests of their members because the law requires all employees in a union shop to pay dues even if they don't want to be members. Predictably, when this law came into effect the union bosses became even less accountable than politicians. As for the outfit my friend worked for, they finally gave up and moved the whole operation to South Carolina, which is a "right to work" state. Workers there get paid more but the company has fewer headaches and bigger profits.
